Cher Adeyinka Statement

Memory and identity are often the central themes to the work I make.

I use a range of mediums since it is the association between a certain material and a memory that is important at the time of working. It is not always an aesthetic decision but the emotional association to an ingredient that I like.

Our memories are always subjective, even a shared memory of a collective event would be different in the individual recounting. But (hopefully) communal themes are revealed in a private take on things.

Images or objects are made with any number of different materials, although I have a preference for working on paper. The absorbency or resistance of the surface is always fascinating, and paper seems to translate the intimacy of what I’m trying to say.
